Is there an easy way to check for emerging baby teeth?

My daughter is almost 9 months old. She got her first two bottom teeth at exactly 7 months and has not gotten any more since then. Both bottom teeth came within two days of eachother. She has been fussy and waking at night and I'm wondering if her top two teeth are coming in. Does anyone have any tricks for checking her gums? She's quite the squirmer and even my husband and I have a difficult time trying to check together....between her tongue thrusting forward and her moving her head all over the place, we've given up looking. I know of the 'spoon trick' but that only works once they're in. I was able to see the bottom two before they broke through but the top are much harder to see. Any suggestions?

Hold her and put your finger in her mouth. Do it quickly, she is sure to bite you!

You could dip your finger in something she likes, like applesauce. That might gain you a few moments before she bites you.

Also, distracting her up high with something so you can see in her mouth...
Reply:Well, does she have a slight fever? Is she drooling excessively? These are signs of teething. Give her a teething toy fresh out of the freezer. Really, I don't think you need to look for the teeth. Fighting with her trying to check is just making everybody miserable, it sounds like.
Reply:while she is asleep run your hand along her gums and see if they are hard and there is probably baby teeth there!
Reply:Take a teething ring and put it in the freezer to get it really cold. Give it to her to rub her gums on. Help her a little at first. If it makes her gums feel better; she probably is teething now. She will have to come through with some more teeth sooner or later.
Reply:i am having the exact same problem! do this, lie your baby down and themlaugh alot like they do with there mouths wide open! and when he laughs you can see the top gum slighty! and also quickly put your finger in to see how hard his gums are or if they are more bumpy. ive noticed when my babys gums feel more bumpy, theres a tooth about to appear soon! good luck! im so excited cant wait until they come out, my baby is 9 months and has 2 bottom teeth also!
