when my first child was 1 we started seriously teaching him how to brush his teeth, and he would scream and scream, and we were worried about what neigbours etc would think we were doing to our child, and so we backed off somewhat and we had a lot of trouble getting him to do it b4 and after we backed off. consequently his teeth were very bad and he had to have a lot of denal visits b4 they were ok again (now he's 8, and he brushes well) but our new baby's teeth started coming through v.early. and at 11mths she has 6teeth and i try to let my son show her and get her to try to copy him (she copies most things he does) but i feel she's not brushing enough and im extremely worried we'll go through it all again... please help..what are some methods to get very small children to want to brush without forcing them?
How do i get my baby to like brushing her teeth?
My daughter is 13 months and has ten teeth so we had to get on it early, but she loves those little electric toothbrushes (pediatrician recommended it). So we bought a shrek one and use some of the orajel flouride-free training toothpaste. At first she was scared of it and I had to really force the issue. Now she just loves it! It feels great on their gums as well when a new tooth is coming through. It's just a matter of making it seem fun. I tell my daughter how pretty she is when she brushes her teeth. Which she just loves to hear. Then she smiles in the mirror like she just put makeup on. I'm no sure with a boy how to go about that. But electric toothbrushes are great because even though he may not be brushing well, The head spins and vibrates so it does lots of the brushing for him.
Reply:Try letting them pick out like, they're own toothbrush and toothpaste... And, tell them something like, if you brush your teeth really good for blah blah blah days, you can do something like, say something they like... I dont see how its reallly a problem since she's so young and I dont know if this will help so yea...Hope it helps though=)
Reply:I have this problem with my 21 mo. She was late to get her teeth but has all but four of her baby teeth. I allow her to copy me and also to look in the mirror and dress her toothbrush, rinse %26amp; spit. But also we allow her to practice with an older softer toothbrush and some non-flouride toothpaste, but at least once everyday or two I use flouride toothpaste and I brush them myself to ensure that her teeth are really clean and we floss at twice a week.
