How do you brush your baby's teeth?

My baby's almost 11 months old and she has 8 teeth. I try to brush them with a small brush, but she just bites on it and won't let go of it, if I pull it out and try again, she starts to whine, etc... and if I use a wet wash cloth, she bites my fingers! :(

How do you brush your baby's teeth?
wow, some of these answers are crazy. Yes, you need to brush babies teeth before they are one, and yes, baby teeth are just as important as adult teeth. Have these people never heard of bottle rot? Do these people want their kids walking around with black teeth until they get their adult teeth?

Try to brush them as well as you can, and as long as she's chewing on the toothbrush, that is doing something better than nothing. Best of luck!
Reply:Letting her just chew on it at this point is just fine....it starts the foundation of learning good oral hygiene.

When my girls were that age after every meal while still sitting in the high chair I would just give it to them to chew on....then I would try and help them afterwards(they weren't always compliant either) I also took them in the bathroom with me every time I brushed my teeth so they could see what I was doing.....babies mimic what they see you doing.
Reply:My son will only let be brush his gums if I use one of the finger brushes and will only bite if I use a regular brush. I have no idea how to brush the front of his teeth.

I just let him keep some toothbrushes in his toybox and he chews on them on and off most days. And I use the finger tip brush most nights before bed and do the best I can.

I think it is better not to turn it into a hated event. Though I really do think I need to take my son to a dentist to get his teeth cleaned. He's one.
Reply:use use a travler tooth brush and brush the teeth up and down so she can have good gums.
Reply:Let her watch you brush your teeth. Use a soft bristled brush on her teeth, brush lightly all the while you are talking to her about the process.
Reply:I just let my daughter chew on the toothbrush if she wants. It seems more important at this point to just get her used to the idea of brushing her teeth, and not turning her off from it. It doesnt' really matter if they're completely clean, I just don't want her being afraid of the toothbrush. Usually she opens her mouth and laughs if I sing that old toothbrushing song, "You brush your teeth, ch ch ch ch....." yea, I dunno if you remember it. lol but she alway sopens her mouth and laughs and I try brushing one tooth at a time, but once she starts whining, I stop.
Reply:The only advice I know to give to you is to call you doctor and see what he recommends...it may just be part of stage she's going through.
Reply:awww. Your baby sounds too cute! You can buy baby tooth brush at babies r us.
Reply:u don't really need to until they are 1 year old, or so....
Reply:Feed her some dog biscuits. NOT REALLY. You need to remember that these are her 'baby teeth' and they will all 'fall out' and be replaced by her 'adult teeth' when she's six and older ... so it's not NEARLY AS IMPORTANT to 'brush her teeth' now as you may think. Give her something she can 'chew on' that will help remove the 'plaque and germs' ... like a chicken bone with all of the 'meat' removed, and the 'tiny bones' at the end taken off ... that's what I did with my kids, and they've all got 'perfect teeth' now ...
Reply:I had the same problem. I bought me and my son the exact same toothbrush, spiderman, and I used the kids toothpaste. I would brush mine and let him brush his own. I knew he wasnt doing a good job so I would let him brush mine then he would let me brush his. Then I would slowly change the routine to where I would just brush his. When I was a stay at home mom I would make sure we always brushed them together.
Reply:thats normal for her to bite it but you will have to make her let you, they get plaque on their teeth too so use a baby toothbrush with infant toothpaste
Reply:My son will be 12 months on Saturday. He does the same thing. I keep trying one day he get the hang of it.
