My daughter loves sucking on apple, it%26#039;s cold and sturdy, which makes it a great teething %26quot;toy%26quot; and yummy snack..
But someone told me that giving raw apple for baby to chew on is bad for their teeth, that it%26#039;s too acidic and will harm the enamel. How true is that??
Apples bad for baby teeth?
It%26#039;s bologna. If it were true, you would have to avoid feeding children applesauce.
The concern is more for making sure you clean baby%26#039;s teeth twice a day. Do not use toothpaste (no flouride until he learns to spit, not swallow). A clean washcloth usually works best.
Reply:I hope not. My son loves apples.
Reply:I don%26#039;t know about that part of it, but I think that I would get one of those mesh feeder things that look like a pacifier with a mesh bag attached and give her the apples that way. I would be more afraid of her getting a piece off and choking on it.
Reply:well i dont know about a young baby but my one and a half year old loves them and they make great chewing toys for her gums esspecially refrigerated because they are cold my advice would be
Check with your doctor and Google it!!
Reply:im sure an apple here and there wont hurt, remember the saying an apple a day keeps the doctor away, it does clean there teeth but it does have natural sugars and citric acid so i wouldnt give a couple apples a day maybe at the most one per day or even every few days
Reply:no, my sons all love apples. they are very healthy for you. but can also be a choking hazard. be careful of the small pieces your daugher might bit/suck off. try one of those mesh feeder.
Reply:Apples have sugar. I would not NOT give your child apples as they are a great healthy snack, however, I would just make sure that you brush your baby%26#039;s teeth when they are done sucking on the apple. I Used to have a mesh teether that you out fruit or veggies in so that they could explore the tastes of fruits and veggies without choking on them. I just brushed those little pearls when ever they were done.
Reply:The danger of tooth damage occurs when the acidic or sugary food is in contact with the teeth for a long period of time. Eating apple during a meal is fine, but if your daughter is sucking on it continually, her saliva doesn%26#039;t get a chance to counteract the effects of the apple. This is why babies shouldn%26#039;t be given a bottle in the cot or carry around milk/juice to drink through the day.
Putting a teething ring in the fridge can help with teething pain.
Reply:it makes sense to me but you can brush her teeth afterwards...they sell it at walmart, its infant toothpaste and a rubber toothbrush that you slip on your finger. my son is 7 months old and has 5 teeth with the 6th breaking through. so you really should start brushing them even just to clean the formula and food off.
Reply:The apples are fine for her teeth but a bit of a choking hazard-- it%26#039;s juice you want to avoid if you%26#039;re worried about her teeth.
And ... If she has teeth, even tiny ones, you should brush them! (A little scrub with a clean, wet washcloth will do the trick if you don%26#039;t want to use a toothbrush.)
