All breastfeeding moms- what did you do when your baby got teeth in so they learn not to bite your breast?

i've heard some stories about the babies biting hard when they get their teeth. i have an infant who will be cutting teeth soon. looking for tips on what to do

All breastfeeding moms- what did you do when your baby got teeth in so they learn not to bite your breast?
DON'T STOP BREASTFEEDING, whatever you do. There is no reason for that!! Shame on all those who suggested it!

Breastfeeding is a remarkably advanced mechanism; sucking in different ways produces different types of milk and different rates of flow. Babies know this from experience.

By the time your baby is old enough to have teeth, he or she knows how to feed properly. So a baby who is biting you is a baby who is no longer hungry, and is playing with you instead. Put your finger in the corner of the baby's mouth to break the suction, and take the baby off your breast. Do this immediately whenever he or she bites, and you will get the message across.

Depending on how old your baby is, it might be time to start offering some alternatives anyway. If baby has teeth, he or she should probably be introduced to solid foods and a sippy cup. This does not replace breastmilk, and you should not stop nursing! This is just to supplement, and can give you a break if you're still sore from a bite. But keep trying, and baby will probably outgrow the biting phase.

DON'T LISTEN TO THE IDIOTS WHO TELL YOU TO GIVE IT UP!!
Reply:stop breast feeding
Reply:Take your child away from your breast immediately when your child does that. Well, disengage your nipple first. A stern "NO BITE" will get through too.
Reply:It's probley safe to say stop letting him/her feed from you and get a pump, it's just as healthy.
Reply:when my older son was three months old, he had six teeth and used to chew my nipples until they bled. the scary thing was that he liked the blood. my milk dried up after a couple months of this. i tried the "no" thing but once he had tasted blood he didn't care. i wanted to continue breastfeeding, but there was no way. i don't know if the milk dried up because of the weaning process or because of the damage done to the tissues...whatever you do, don't let the baby taste the blood.
Reply:they have nipple protectors you can use to protect your breasts from feisty nursers. Try Babies R Us.com
Reply:My son has never bit me! And he is 2 1/2 years old now %26amp; still nursing. He got his first teeth at 3 months old!!! He just never bit at all!!
Reply:its time to wheen your babie.feed it babyfood by spoon.
Reply:When my son first got teeth, I didn't really have a problem. When his bottom teeth came in was when we really starting working on it. He would sometimes slip off a little and scrape with his teeth. Usually I would just pop him off and help him re-latch. Later, he started biting, just to see what would happen. Whenever he bits, I pop him off, tell him no biting, and let him try again. If he bites twice, then I put him down for a while. He stopped biting after 2 or 3 times of that (he likes his nursies!). You should also watch for times that your child is more likely to bite, like when they are not really interested in the milk anymore. My son bit most often near the end of feedings and when he was tired.
Reply:Don't listen to those who recommend stopping breastfeeding! My little guy just got his first tooth in last Thursday so I know how you are feeling. I asked my mother what she recommended once he starts biting, and she said that for me and my younger sister, just pulling us off and saying 'no' worked. For my older sister (the stubborn one, lol) nothing seemed to work. Finally, in slight desperation, the next time she bit, my mom pulled my sister’s hair just enough to make baby realize that biting hurts! It worked the first time - she never chomped down again! Hope this helps and congratulations on the little one!
