8 month old baby has no teeth please help?

My 8 month old has no teeth, he has no signs of teething either. I am very worried because the doctor told me that if he dosnt get any teeth in by 14 months, then its time for plan b.. I asked him what it was and he told me that if no teeth appear before 14 months then he will send us to a specialist.. OK THEN WHAT??? How in the WORLD can a specialist make my sons teeth grow? i need some answers.. Has anyone ever been in the situation before? At What Time Did your babies teeth started to come in.. What are the signs of teething ( No textbook Signs Please) Thanks!!!

The first teeth on AVERAGE don;t erupt until 6-8 months so s/he isn;t behind even the average yet :)


What the specialist woudl do is to see if his teeth are even there TO erupt. He is probably just a bit slow at it. My secon dwas BORN teething but didn't actually get one until 6 1/2 to 7 months. Like all growth, they will go at their own pace.
Reply:They can start getting teeth at any age. My first one didn't get his till he was 9 months. and my youngest did start getting till he was 10 or 11 months. and my doctor did complain. They come. They are in gums. baby are born with teeth but in their gums. Teething would make him fussy. HE wouldn't be sucking much out of the bottle. Alot of slobbering putting things in the mouth or biting something.
Reply:All babies' teeth come in at different rates. Some don't get teeth until 9 or 10 months old. It would be VERY rare for them not to come in. I didn't even really realize my son was teething until I saw slight white marks under his gums. He just seemed to not be napping well, wanting to suck on stuff more. Of course the drooling, but that is almost every kid! My nephews even get rosy cheeks and run a slight fever. I wouldn't get too worried. I am sure your son is fine!! :)
Reply:Some people get teeth late. My neighbors daughter didnt get teeth until she was about 16 months. My daughter started teething at 4 months so every one is different. He will get teeth just when he is ready. And there arent any real sign s of teething. My daughter didnt cry for any of her teeth and she has about 13 teeth. None of the bothered her.

My son's 1st teeth broke through at 4 months %26amp; he now has 7 (almost 8) teeth at almost 12 months. His cousin is 14 months and has her two bottom teeth that errupted recently (I think at 12 months). She is incredibly beautiful, bright and has met all her milestones.


Signs of teething from our experience were fussiness, loss of appetite, excessive drooling %26amp; non-stop chewing on anything in sight.

The baby is 8 months now. 14 months is six months away. It´s a long time for a baby.

Reply:Every baby is different, its hard to know when he will get teeth. My son is almost nine months and just cut his FIRST tooth. My daughter didn't get her first tooth till almost a year. Then my first son had a mouthful by a year. Signs of my children were...chewing everything, drooling like crazy and nonstop, gums were swollen a bit, on two of my kids they got real white and looked like they had tiny little blisters. Irritability, not wanting to eat as much as their gums hurt. Waking at night when they normally don't...He still has 8 months, so he has plenty of time for those teeth to come in, try not to worry :)
Reply:I wouldn't worry about it yet. You can't do anything to make your son's teeth grow. They will come in when they are ready. My niece didn't have any teeth until after her 1st birthday. So your son's teeth will probably come in in the next few months. Don't worry about it yet.

Reply:Don't panic my daughter celebrated her first birthday by having to gum her cake because she didn't cut teeth until she was 13 months old. She is now 16 and has never experienced any significant issues because of her delay in cutting teeth. One sign of teething can be diarrhea.

Reply:my daughter got her teeth at 8 months 3 weeks old. she never showed any signs of teething, we got up one morning and there they were, 2 teeth on the bottom. now at 14 months old she only has 6 and my dr does not seem worried about it. im sure your sick of hearing this but every child does develop at there own pace. by your drs chart you still have 6 months for your son to get teeth. enjoy not getting bit right now and cross the teeth bridge with your dr when he pushes the issue about a specialist.
Reply:All babies are different. My daughter cut her first tooth at 8 months, ran fever, drooled, gnawed anything she could get in her mouth and was cranky as an old woman. My son got his first tooth at 4-1/2 months and the second the next day. Was I shocked! No symptoms, just teeth. I thought he had something in his mouth and stuck my finger in. OUCH!





My grandchildren are a different story. None of them had teeth before 10 months. My grandson was about a week shy of his first birthday. The baby may be getting her first tooth and she was 10 months old on the first of Jan.





My neighbor claimed her son was cutting teeth from the time he was 5 months old, but he didn't get the first tooth until he was 13 months old.





So, I think I would consult a pediatric dentist instead of relying on your doctor. Check out the website below. It says if no teeth by 15-18 months consult a pediatric dentist.
Reply:don't worry... even at 14 months it is still normal... I alwasy thought the normal range for a baby to get teeth was from birth (yes, some are born w/ teeth) to about 18 months.

some kids don't really show any signs of teething... others show signs for many MANY months before a tooth finally erupts... mine did the latter, she started having the major drooling, red inflamed gums, fussiness at around 3 months. it would come and go for a few days at a time, until 10.5 months when she got her top 2 on the same day!!
Reply:Hi don't panic cause my cousin's first teeth appeared last week when he was 10 month. Also my friend's daughter is now nine and a half month and her teeth is appearing now. I have twin babies and one of them's teeth appeared when he was 4 and a half month. Our doctor said teeth is genetic and if one of the parent's has an early teeth history this can happen . So maybe you and your wife had a late teeth apperance also when you were babies. teething signs are sucking the finger or hand. And of course saliva and itching...

I still have baby teeth.. and..?

So yeah.. on the top of my mouth I have only one baby tooth left. Looking back in pictures, I could see it was always this small.. and it hasn't changed size at all. I was suppose to have lost it by now.. and my dentist X-Rayed it to see if there was another tooth growing in.. there is.. but the baby tooth won't come out.. so.. help?

Will adult teeth grow back after having your baby teeth knocked out?

Reply:Yea, her teeth will grow in. She's supposed to have adult teeth. It may take sometime because her front baby teeth weren't supposed to come out yet, but it will grow back. It may start growing back when she's about 8 or 9.

Adult teeth and baby tooth?

My sons has a adult tooth coming in behind his baby tooth. The baby tooth is not loose or anything. Has any one had this happen before? If so what does the dentist do?

I had this problem when i was young. The dentist pulled the baby teeth and said that the adult teeth would then move up in place on their own. Worked great. I have straight teeth and never need braces.
Reply:Often the dentist will pull the baby tooth. It is supposed to come out anyway.

Reply:My son has that too, only the adult tooth is in front. Same thing happened to me when I was a child. The dentist will numb the area and remove the baby tooth. Not very painful at all, then the adult tooth will move into the proper position.

Reply:YEs it happened to me and my oldest son. you can go to the dentist but dont have to. he would maybe pull the baby tooth maybe not. i will admit that the new tooth may be a little crooked or off-center at first but it will straighten up.

Reply:This just happened to my 12 year old son. I don't know if it is the exact same case or not but the orthodontist said it was fine and the baby tooth finally came out on its on. You should take your son to a dentist for a check up.

Maybe you can feed her canned food, or mix in canned with kibble? You can also soak her kibble with water before her meal or soak it with sodium-free beef/chicken broth to make the kibble soft.

I also wanted to add- I would buy her some bullysticks to chew on, to ease the pain. Ice cubes are fun and help ease the pain as well.
Reply:When my puppy went thru the teething process not too long ago her appettite changed drastically. Try wetting the food a bit for her or buying some canned wet food for her. Teething is a very painful thing for a young pup to go thru.
Reply:You can soak it in water or give her a little can food to much could cause lose stool so just be careful the amount until you see how she does on it

Reply:My son is 7 and has only lost four teeth. There are several children in his second grade class (age 7 %26amp; 8) that also have braces without all of their permenant teeth. I also thought this seemed redundant. However, it seems to be the trend at my sons school. I didn%26#039;t get my braces until the age of 15. It seems to fast to me.

Im 21 with no baby teeth and I don%26#039;t feel grown up! Its not your teeth that define you, its you and how you feel and take things. Your a grown up later on in life when your doing things your mom does and taking care of yourself. Your growing up but that doesn%26#039;t mean you are a grown up!


Teeth is a silly thing to make us grow up....
