My puppy doesn%26#039;t like to eat her kibble anymore. She is loosing her baby teeth. Could this be why? What can I do to get her to eat her food?
It is possible that a puppy wont eat her dogfood because she is loosing her baby teeth?
Yes, that could very possibly be the reason.
Maybe you can feed her canned food, or mix in canned with kibble? You can also soak her kibble with water before her meal or soak it with sodium-free beef/chicken broth to make the kibble soft.

Reply:When my puppy went thru the teething process not too long ago her appettite changed drastically. Try wetting the food a bit for her or buying some canned wet food for her. Teething is a very painful thing for a young pup to go thru.

I certainly understand the importance of sealing molars. But, aren%26#039;t a child 6-year-old molars baby teeth that they%26#039;re going to lose anyway? My dentist has a bad reputation for gouging people where he can, so I%26#039;m always wary. At $55 per tooth, do I need to get my son%26#039;s molars sealed at this point?

How to know if they are permanent molars . Count, if they are the 6th tooth back from the middle they are permanent molars.
P.S. If your dentist has a reputation for %26quot;gouging%26quot; you need a new dentist. You need to trust your doctor, whomever it is...

But you should do what you feel is best for your child. You might even get a second opinion from a different dentist.

The office I worked at for 6 years charged $70 and if you want an actual filling which would be the amalgams we would be looking at about $90-$100 and a composit is even more than that. If you are really in doubt though and have a dentist with a bad rep I would suggest switching. You dont want to mess around with your oral health and catch any problems you%26#039;re children may be having early on. It%26#039;ll save you lots as they get older if you start to get a hold of them now.

I have a 8mo old Rat Terrier whose adult teeth are all in, but the baby teeth have not exfoliated??
How long does this normally take? I have never had a puppy with this problem. He does have many chew toys but nothing seems to help with this. Should I just take him to our Vet to have the baby teeth extracted or wait a little longer, to let nature take it%26#039;s course.

The deciduous teeth should have come out by now, but this is a problem that is common in smaller (what we sometimes call %26#039;overbred%26#039; breeds). The baby teeth should be extracted as soon as possible. When the adult teeth try to grow in around the baby teeth, it causes misdirection of the growing teeth, impaction of roots, incorrect bites, and all kinds of subsequent problems.

Babies teeth growth varies. Some babies start growing teeth when they are about 3 months and then there are some that start when they are six months it varies. I say by the time they are 12month they should close to all of there teeth

I have a chiuahuah and this morning i took him to the vet to get his baby teeth extracted. He is one year old and still hasnt lost them all so the vet said it would be better to get them taken out. The Baby teeth will come out on their own in their own time. Functionality is whats important, not picture perfect fashion model gleam and straightness, Less than rarely does a dog%26#039;s teeth ever grow in abnormally.
Unless your dog is a show dog and demands that extra pampering for Judges - don%26#039;t put your dog through being knocked out with drugs just for its baby teeth extraction.
I love dogs (and cats) so I would not tell you something that would endanger your pet. The only time a pet should be knocked out with drugs is for life saving (or potentially life saving) surgery. I worked in an orthodontic office for ten years and general for over 17 - this is just too easy. There are no brackets on your baby teeth. They will put the tooth to sleep and you%26#039;ll fell pressure- like someone squeezing your hand, and you may hear a little bit of funny noise, take your IPOD= it will take about 10 seconds. Relax, it%26#039;s easy.

It%26#039;s really not recommended to get braces when you still have your baby teeth. My friend got braces when she young, and then she had to get braces again because her teeth got crooked again.

I worked in an orthodontic office for ten years and general for over 17 - this is just too easy. There are no brackets on your baby teeth. They will put the tooth to sleep and you%26#039;ll fell pressure- like someone squeezing your hand, and you may hear a little bit of funny noise, take your IPOD= it will take about 10 seconds. I still don't see any sign of lower baby teeth appearing to my son who is three years and four months old.

My kitten started having accidents outside the litterbox, and a little bit after they started I found one tooth nestled in her fur and she dropped another in my palm. This baby tooth of mine never loosened. My dental surgeon pulled this baby tooth and attached a chain to the adult tooth and to the wire for my braces. Each time I got my braces tightened, this chain would pull this adult tooth down into place. sounds painful but it really wasn%26#039;t. X-Rays can determine what is the cause of you still having baby teeth so talk to your dentist!

I have a chihuahua puppy who is almost 3 months old. I have been reading about their ears because he only has one ear standing right now. They sure do! My Jack Russell Terrier was sooo cute, when he lost his last tooth in a pair of socks of mine, that he stole from me... it%26#039;s why I named him %26quot;Bandit%26quot;!; that and he%26#039;s got a natural mask.
I had saved them, but when I moved from Michigan to Puerto Rico (I know, what a move!), I lost his baby teeth! That%26#039;s okay, I still have the Bandit, (or El Bandido en Espanol). He%26#039;s 3 1/2 yrs old now, and loving it here, as he did in Michigan... He used to chase the squirrels in the parks, but now he%26#039;s chasing lizards!
As with our baby teeth, the dogs baby teeth really don%26#039;t have any roots, so in normal play activity they%26#039;ll come out... being a lot more tolerant to pain than most of us whimpy humans, it won%26#039;t bother them a bit!

Why do dentists now have to preform dental work on childrens baby teeth?
I had to take my kid to the dentist and i know its been a long time since i was a kid, but when i was his age i thought they would just pull em. Now the dentist said that my son had 3 small cavities, and 2 (baby root canals) on his baby teeth. I dont know what the heck that means or how the heck he got em concidering he gets his teeth brushed everyday. I asked the dentist to just pull the ones with the root canals, and fix the others, but he said that pulling is a bad idea. I saw the bill and it was quite high. And the insurance only covers 60% on root canals (how conveinient). I asked him how much it would cost me if they were pulled and he wouldnt tellme, but just repeated how bad it would be for the big teeth. I feel they just want to charge money for no reason other then to lace their pockets with money. Anybody else have info or feel the same way.

There is more to it than just %26quot;lining%26quot; the dentist pocket; it%26#039;s for the Childs best interest. Years ago, these teeth were just extracted and not given at thought about. Later, the child would have major dental problems such as; growth of the arches being too small, over bites and under bites, malaligned teeth and crowding. All of which I%26#039;m sure you don%26#039;t want to have to repair with surgery or orthodontic treatment later.
Also removing decay and placing fillings to restore the deciduous teeth so they can remain for the years needed maintaining the space for development, is common in small children. Leaving decay to continue to destroy the Childs teeth is what leads to needing root canals and stainless steel crowns work preformed on small children.
Children should be seen by a dentist at least by age three, some say at a year old but I think three is fine myself. Parents need to supervise the child’s brushing technique twice a day and always follow up with checking and re-brushing areas missed by them. Also the drinks before bed should be only of water after brushing before bed, it’s the sugary milk or the acid in juices, that coats the teeth that adds to decay. There are many other things that I could bring up, but I’ll leave all of that to your dentist.
Over the years we have learned the reasons as to why so many dental problems have occurred and how to prevent them from happening to children now. Your dentist is trying to educate you and help your child so that these problems don’t happen to them. What seems expensive now with the needed work is nothing compared to what the repairs later will cost. Take my advice, trust your dentist to take care of you and your family’s dental health. Additional information: Root canals of deciduous teeth are similar to adult root canals but not as tedious or complicated. The same thing has occured though, the decay has reached the nerve of the tooth and the nerve must be removed to maintain the tooth. pulling teeth too early can affect the amount of space that the replacement teeth have to grow in to.... which could lead to the greater expence of plates and braces.... also if the teeth that need pulling are the molars (the back teeth) it could affect your sons ability to chew his food properly, and lead to muscle strain of the jaw...
also the bacteria involved in causing cavities can affect the underlaying teeth, bone structure, gum health and studies are also showing a link between poor oral health and heart disease.....
as for how he got them.... have a good look at his diet,...... there is a school of belife that a diet high in sugars and highly processed / refined foods affect oral health from the inside out (much like your skin)
as you havent said how old your son is..... i am going to ask a couple of questions... does he drink lots of fruit juice, soda, sugary drinks?? does he still drink from a bottle??? if so does he go to bed with a bottle (after brushing his teeth?)
also get your dentist to watch your brushing technique.... there may be ways to improve this to ensure your child has a better clean....

The dentist came out and said she had two cavities and pressured me into making an appointment to get them filled. I declined and drove home wondering what that is all about, since these teeth are going to fall out very soon anyway. I felt like I was being conned. Well I never did get them filled and her baby teeth fell out and that%26#039;s that.
You didn%26#039;t mention how old your kid is. I would suspect if the tooth is severely decayed and not ready to come out for quite a long time then yes it might be a good idea to patch it up.

My female Yorkie pup is 8 months old and has not lost her front larger baby teeth (two at the top and two at the bottom,) but has also got her adult front teeth, so now she has 8 front teeth instead of 4. Is this normal, it looks mad. she does not seem to be bothered by them at all, and is not behaving any different to normal. If it%26#039;s coming in in the FRONT behind the baby lower incisors, then that could be a concern... If not, you probably want to have it looked at...I can%26#039;t really answer for you w/o looking in your son%26#039;s mouth and/or looking at xrays.
Now, if your son is five years old and doesn%26#039;t see a dentist regularly, you need to get on the horse and get him in ANYway...I think kids shoudl be seen starting at 2 or 3...the American Academy of Pediatric Dentists and the ADA actually says one year old! which is not unreasonable, either.

I%26#039;m kind of surprised, if only because you%26#039;d think she%26#039;d be more cognizant of where her bread is buttered! My teeth didnt push other teeth out when I was 5-to 15 so I had to pull them out myself, my dad pulled some out and a dentist also pulled 2 out. If you arent sure go to a dentist but they should push them out!
Reply:This is not uncommon at all. This happens to a lot of kids. I would just let the adult tooth push the baby tooth out. If you want you can have him see a dentist but I am sure all they will do is have you pay tons of money to numb it up and pull the tooth out. I do not think it is worth it but its your choice.

Is it normal for a 17 yr old girl to still have 2 baby teeth and lose one of her baby teeth?
I am 17 this yr and have 2 baby teeth left.one is dropping.Is it normal.If the baby teeth really drop,how long does it takes for the adult teeth to grow out,considering the fact that i am 17 years old this year.

The reason they stay in longer is that the adult tooth may be missing under the babay tooth or the adult tooth is grwoing out in a wrong position. I would get an xray taken and see a dentist who will advise you about what to do. If the roots of the adult teeth have already fully formed and they are still not out in your mouth, it will be difficult for it to grow out on its own and you may need braces for this.
See your dentist for the best advice.

Also, baby teeth are thinner in enamel than permanent teeth and so they will be worn off earlier than normal permanent teeth.
The result is that you will get more sensitive teeth over time.
My suggestion to you is that you should not do anything unless it is affecting you or the way u look.
